Bud Darnell – Nickelsville, VA
Edgar L. “Bud” Darnell, 78, Nickelsville, VA went to be with his Heavenly Father, Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Bud was born in Scott County, VA on March 28, 1939 and was the son of the late James Cossie and Clara Gladys (Christian) Darnell.
He was a retiree of the Scott County School System, having served as custodian for both Twin Springs High School and Nickelsville Elementary School. He was also a former minister of Wood Riverview Baptist Church in Ft. Blackmore, VA.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Ruby Pierson and brothers, Donnie, Roy, and Jim Darnell and Bob and Bill Ervin preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Ada Gibson Darnell, Nickelsville, VA; daughter, Della M. Rogers and husband, Lonney, West Union, SC; son, Edgar L. “Buddy” Darnell, Jr. and wife, Teresa, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Cade Rogers and Heath Rogers and wife, Jenny, Asheville, NC; great grandson, Kellan Rogers; sisters, Sue Smith and husband, Melvin, Beaver, WV, Juanita Summey, Ft. Blackmore, VA, and Verdi Frazier, Mill Creek, VA; brother, Tommy Darnell and wife, Carolyn, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Cecil Kern and Rev. Larry Beavers officiating. Mickey and Nikki Summey will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Heath Rogers, Cade Rogers, Adam Kenner, Robert Darnell, Tommy Darnell, Jr., and Dustin Darnell will serve as pallbearers. Bill Sallings, Bill Nickels, and Bobby Darnell will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 a.m., Sunday for the graveside service.
