Bruce W. Damon
Bruce W. Damon, 72, passed away, Friday, March 21, 2014 following a brave fight with cancer.
Bruce was born in Concord, MA on August 28, 1941. He was raised in Bedford. MA and was a graduate of Bedford High School. At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy where he received general and specialized electronic maintenance training. He was honorably released from active duty in 1962 as a Communications Tech Maintenance Second Class (CTM2). Following his Naval service, he worked for two defense contractors, and finally for the U.S. Navy Department in the fields of Naval Cryptology, National SIGINT Intelligence, and Information Warfare. He retired from Federal employment in 1997 having completed a total of 38 years combined service to his country. He and his wife lived and worked in the Washington, D.C. area for 37 years and after retirement relocated to Scott County, VA.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Erma Damon, two sisters, Gayle Damon and Dawn Drakes; and a brother, Lawrence Damon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Loretta Blankenbeckler Damon; daughters, Pamela Hardin and husband, John, Herndon, VA and Kimberly Perry and husband, James, Centreville, VA; and four wonderful grandchildren, Kyle Perry, Shane Perry, Katelyn Perry, and Ashley Hardin.
At his request, his remains will be cremated and interred in the mausoleum at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Gate City Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Muncie officiating.
The Damon family would like to thank all of the friends, doctors, and caregivers who helped Bruce in his final struggles.
