Mary Ann Culbertson of Nickelsville, VA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Culbertson was born in Russell County, VA on October 5, 1931, the daughter of the late Thomas Hyder and Nancy Hale Brummitt. Mary was retired from the Scott County Schools as a custodian after 23 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Culbertson,sons, Raymond Luther (Tom) Culbertson, Gordon Preston Culbertson, and Donald Gale Culbertson; five sisters, and three brothers.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Jean Finch and husband, Charles, Nickelsville, VA and Sue Ann Collins and husband, Lee, Dungannon, VA; sons, David Earl Culbertson, Sr., and wife, Kathy, Gate City, VA and Douglas Wade Culbertson, Sr. and wife, Lana, Nickelsville, VA; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and the home of Doug and Lana Culbertson and the residences of the other children anytime. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bob Yates and Rev. Larry Beavers officiating. Jack Owens and Sisters in Christ will provide the music along with Mrs. Culbertson's daughter, Betty Jean Finch.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Culbertson Family Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Wayne Williams, Cornell Williams, Bobby Burton, Freddie Holbrook, Jim Culbertson, and David Culbertson, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
