Carl  E. ""Wild Bill"" Culbertson

Carl E. Culbertson – Nickelsville, VA
Carl E. “Wild Bill” Culbertson, 89, Nickelsville, VA went to be with his family and the Lord, Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Wise County, VA on September 1, 1924, he was the son of the late Edward and Cynthia Osborne Culbertson.
Carl was an accomplished musician and he played in the band “Friendly Partners” during the late 50’s and 60’s, cutting several albums of original country and western and blue grass tunes. He and his group played in the VA/TN/NC area, and even played his favorite banjo before Earl Scruggs and received glowing accolades.
He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Nickelsville, VA.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Lyle Phillips, Lorraine Isom, and Altalee Wolfe; along with his nephew, Senior Petty Officer, Clyde C. Porter, USN preceded him in death.
He is survived by his niece, Pearl Porter, Jacksonville Beach, FL; 7great nephews and nieces, Captain Clyde Porter, Jr., USN (Ret) and wife, Robin, St. Augustine, FL, Elizabeth Hawkins and husband, Mark, Southern Pine, NC, Yvonne Vargas and husband, Dan, Jacksonville, FL, Brenda Porter, Jacksonville, FL, Stephen Maulbetsch, St. Augustine, FL, Diana Porter, St. Simons Island, GA, Tom Porter and wife, Cindy, Jacksonville, FL; 23 great great nieces and nephews; friend and caregiver, Robin Lane, Nickelsville, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Fred White and Rev. Charlie Taylor officiating. Lisa Quillen and Gary Hicks, and the Nickelsville Community Choir will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Nickelsville Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
