Paul Crooke – Gate City, VA
Paul Aubrey Crooke, 77, Gate City, VA passed away after a brief illness, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Paul was born in Scott County, VA on March 16, 1938. He was the son of the late William and Ruby Peters Crooke.
Paul retired from Eastman Kodak after 29 years of service with Eastman and Holston Defense. He attended the First Baptist Church of Weber City, VA.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Lorriene Culbertson and 3 infant siblings preceded him in death.
Paul is survived by his wife, Catherine Godsey Crooke, Gate City, VA; daughter, Stephanie Crooke Penley and husband, James, Gate City, VA; sister, Wilma Crooke Jones, Piney Flats, TN; brother, Phillip Crooke and wife, Ruth, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Ethan and Aubrie Penley; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 10-12 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Lester Morelock. Josh Taylor will provide the music.
Burial will follow; Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Kent Snapp, Jerry Godsey, Hugh Godsey, Harold Godsey, Larry Godsey, Jerry Hensley, Chris Kimbler, James Penley, Donnie Godsey, Ronnie Godsey, Ethan Penley, Tim Williams, Travis Taylor and Don King will serve as pallbearers. William Kimbler, Dennis “kayro” Taylor, Bobby George, Allen Godsey and John Fuller will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the Holston Valley Medical Center Pulmonary ICU staff; DRs, Grover, El Minaoui, Miller, Vaughn and Eastridge; along with the respiratory therapists, RNs, PCTs for their excellent loving care.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the church of your choice.
