Myrtle Carter Cox, 87, entered into rest Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Wexford House. She was born in Scott County, VA to the late Joseph Worley Carter and Eva Louise Quillen Carter. Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. G. "Si" Cox; sister, Mattie Flanary; brothers, Joe "Worley" Carter, William "Bill" Carter and Walter "Lee" Carter. She was a member of the Gate City United Methodist Church and a volunteer with the MEOC for several years. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Whited Kerney and husband, Hershel, Kingsport, TN; son, Charles G. Cox, Santa Rosa, CA; grandson, Randy Johnson and wife, Cindy, Kingsport, TN; one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Johnson, Kingsport, TN; two step great grandchildren, David "Davey" Foulk and Jenny Foulk Shelton and husband, Travis, two step great great grandchildren, Jabin Shelton and Pariah Shelton; one brother, Edwin Carter and wife, Ingrid, Weber City, VA; two sisters, Mary Salling, Weber City, VA, Ina Williams and husband, George "Junior", Kingsport, TN; sisters-in-law, Carrie Carter, Gate City, VA, Hazel Carter, Gate City, VA, Joanne Carter, Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Brown officiating. Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Wexford House, Adventa Hospice, Dr. Joel Gonce, Dr. Baumrucker and Dr. James Wolfe.
