Melvin Junior Cordle, 82, Nickelsville, VA went to be with the Lord, Friday, August 31, 2012 at his residence in Nickelsville, VA.
Mr. Cordle was born in Wise County, VA on July 27, 1930 to the late Charlie E. and Ester Lucas Cordle.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents his daughter, Melissa Sue Cordle; son, Michael Lee Cordle; sisters, Helen Cordle, Helen Watson, Georgie Shadle, and Beulah Dockery; brothers, Archie Ramsey, Fred Cordle, and Russell Cordle; and a special aunt/mother, Maudie Lucas Hall preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathleen Cordle, Nickelsville, VA; daughters, Ann Peak and husband, Junior, Coeburn, VA, Mary Jane Hunt, Kingsport, TN, Margaret Cordle and special friend, Scott Stacey, Nickelsville, VA, Kay Marshall and special friend, Billy Joe Shoemaker, Nickelsville, VA; son, Rick Cordle, Nickelsville, VA; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 expected great grandchild; sisters, Joyce Ramsey, OH, Faye Ramsey, OH, Jean Ramsey, CA, Betty Davis and husband, Bobby, NY, Shelia Cordle, NY, and Eula Brickey, Kingsport, TN; brothers, Tommy Ramsey and wife, Linda, OH, Johnny Ramsey and wife, Linda, Grundy, VA, Bobby Cordle and wife, Maci, NY, and Jackie Cordle, Richlands, VA; along with several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Homer Johnson, Danny Darnell, and Ronco.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., September 2, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Walter Taylor and Rev. Danny Darnell officiating. Danny Darnell, "Peanut" Charles Ramsey, and the Taylor family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Salyer Cemetery, Scott County, VA. Chris Riner, Ryan Marshall, Larry Brickey, Daniel Lell, Aaron Castle, Zack Hall, Blake Hall, and Ryan Dooley will serve as pallbearers. Scotty Hall, Glen Nickels, and Brian Blevins will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to convey their special thanks to Total Home Care and Hospice for their care of Melvin and to everyone for their prayers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
