Mr. Robert Farris. Compton, 89, Kingsport, TN passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Mr. Compton was born in Scott County, VA on June 13, 1922, son of the late Garland Cecil and Zola Ann Crisp Compton. He served in CCC and World War II in the United States Air Force in Europe. He retired from Eastman Kodak after 40 years of service in fiber development. He had a love for farming and trading at local flea markets.
In addition to his parents, his daughter, Mary Nell (1954); sisters, Shirley McClellan and Gladys Sexton; and brothers, Sevier, Cecil, Russell, Gene, John, and David preceded him death.
Surviving is his wife, Ruby Charles Compton, Kingsport, TN, daughters, Kitty Hendrix and husband, Richard, Johnson City, TN and Betty Jean Compton, Kingsport TN; grandchildren, Jerry Wolfe, Jr., and Jason Wolfe, Kingsport, TN, Laura and Steve Humphrey, Kingsport, TN, Heather Hendrix, Johnson City, TN, Sara Hendrix and Brian Chesman, Knoxville, TN; great grandchildren, Garrett Paul Humphrey, Kingsport, TN and Beatrix Hendrix Chesman, Knoxville, TN; sisters, Belle Morelock, Kingsport, TN, Daisy Greene, Washington, GA, and Nell Castle, Kingsport, TN.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Military Graveside Services will be conducted by American Legion Post #3, Kingsport and #265, Gate City, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
