Jimmy Combs – Nickelsville, VA
James Wayne (Jimmy) Combs, 81, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Thursday, December 21, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Jimmy was born in Gate City, VA on March 28, 1936 and was the son of the late W.R. Combs and the late Ruth Combs Fugate.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and a man who never met a stranger.
He was a lifetime farmer and a “jack of all trades” who could make anything he put his mind to.
Jimmy was the owner and operator of Combs Construction for twenty-five years, and along with his wife, Fredia opened Combs Greenhouse, which they operated together for twenty-two years.
In addition to his parents, his step-dad, Robert E. Fugate preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Fredia M. Combs, Nickelsville, VA; daughters, Sharon Combs, Kingsport, TN and Traci Combs, Nickelsville, VA; sons, Darryl Combs and wife, Lisa, Nickelsville, VA and Michael Combs and partner, James Greer, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Holly Pate and husband, Jordan, Gray, TN, Elliot Combs and fiancée, Jessica Winters, Nickelsville, VA, Adam Fields, Nickelsville, VA, Allissa Redwine and companion, Jonathon Russell, Kingsport, TN, Alivia Combs, Nickelsville, VA, and Chloe Jones, Nickelsville, VA; great grandsons, Silas Pate, Avery Fields, August Redwine, and Ryder Pate; sister, Phyllis Parks and husband, Bob, Gate City, VA; his furry friend, Bingo; friend and caregiver, Tracey Ramsey; special friends, Kenneth and Sharon Sluss; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Odell Beauchamp and Rev. Dustin Allman officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Nickelsville Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45a.m., Wednesday for the graveside
