Virginia Ruth McConnell Colley – Kingsport, TN
Virginia Ruth McConnell Colley, 88, Kingsport, TN died peacefully on April 18, 2014 at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.
Virginia Ruth was born September 5, 1925 in Ft. Blackmore, VA to the late Samuel McConnell and Margaret Corder. She was delivered at home by her grandfather, the late Dr. Robert Watson McConnell.
She attended Ft. Blackmore High School and Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC. She was employed by Tennessee Eastman, Stanley Steamer, and other businesses in Kingsport.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Charles W. Colley preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Michael Colley, Kingsport; a brother, Dr. Robert William McConnell and wife, Mary, Greenville, NC; several cousins, nieces, and nephews form FL, VA, MD, , NC, MI, and TN.
Family and friends will gather at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014 to go in procession to Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Collins officiating.
The family would like to convey a special thank you to cousin Christine Barker who has always given friendship and loving care to Ruth; and to the doctors and nurses at Indian Path Medical Center, including the Hospice Care team.
Memorials may be made to Ft. Blackmore United Methodist Church, 14380 Clinch River Highway, Ft. Blackmore, VA 24250. Condolences may be sent to Michael Colley or Dr. William McConnell in care of Gate City Funeral Home.
