Ronald “Ron” Preston Cole, Gate City, VA
Ronald “Ron” Preston Cole, 78, of Gate City, VA passed away on Monday June 1, 2020 at his residence.
He was born in Scott County, VA on October 2, 1941 to the late Charles Preston and Nellie May (Hensley) Cole. He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy McDavid Cole, who continued to have his heart for 58 years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy was his grandchildren.
Ron was a born-again Christian who loved the Lord. He attended Covenant Fellowship Ministries.
Ron started his career at Eastman in 1961 and retired after working 36 years, but his first passion was being an artist. Ron is a native of Southwest Virginia and mostly a self-taught artist. He started painting in grade school and sold his first painting at the age of 15, now his work is in homes and businesses from coast to coast. His watercolors portray vividly the wildlife and landscape of his Appalachian region. He was the recipient of several awards throughout the years.
Quote from Ron, “All of God’s creations are masterpieces that cannot be improved upon. I can only attempt to capture a small portion of them in the time He allows me to do so. Whether it be the snow-covered mountains, the daisies in the field, or the character and personality of someone I’ve met, this is my goal.”
Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters; Melissa Cole Carico, Gate City, VA, and Angela Cole, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Dylan Parker (D.P.) Carico and wife Krystal, Katelyn Paige (Katie Paige) Carico-Tipton and husband Jordan Tipton, Solomon Preston (Soly P.) Cole, and Apphia Patience (Little Bug) Cole; great-grandson, Kaden Carico; along with a special cousin who was like a brother to him, George Cole and wife Mary Faye and his son Jason Cole.
