Mr. John J. Childress, 86, Kingsport, TN passed away, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Childress was born in Lee County, VA on March 28, 1924, son of the late Irvin and Jane Rhoton Childress.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rogers and five brothers.
Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Elsie Mae Kendrick Russell Childress, Kingsport, TN; step-daughter, Pamela Repass and husband, Michael, Kingsport, TN; step-son, Terry Russell and wife, Vernia, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Justin Repass, Jonathan Repass, and Wesley Russell; great grandchildren, Payton Repass and Gavin Repass; sisters, Wilhite Shupe and husband, Gene, Duffield, VA and Myrtle Gilliam, Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Bishop Hagan Webb and the Rev. Boyd Holder officiating. The Victory Apostolic church singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, TN. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
