Richard M. Chapman, 81, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Alexandria, VA.
Mr. Chapman was born in Scott County, VA on June 14, 1932 to the late Lloyd Emmett and Mozella Beason Chapman.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Army and was Commissioner of Revenue of Scott County, VA for 28 years.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mildred Chapman, brother, Hugh Chapman, and cousin, Ray Chapman preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherri McClain, Alexandria, VA; sons, Richard Chapman, Jr. and wife, Kelly, Duffield, VA and Travis Chapman, Hiltons, VA; grandchildren, Sarah McClain, Alex McClain, Lynly Jones, T.J. Chapman, Seth Chapman, Zachary Chapman, and Luke Chapman, sister, Juanita Carter and husband, Ted, Kingsport, TN; brother, Joe Chapman, Gate City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post # 265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
