Ray Richard Chapman – Gate City, VA
Ray Richard Chapman, a loving husband, father, brother, and "Papaw," born December 3, 1933, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 28, 2011.
Ray graduated from Shoemaker High School in 1952. He was a Master Carpenter for 61 years. He enjoyed working in his barn, growing a garden, and playing with his special granddaughter. Ray was a charter member of the Community Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, a great Daddy, brother, uncle, cousin, and "Papaw."
Ray has touched the hearts of many people and brought many smiles and happiness to those who knew him. He was a very giving person who made many memories for all to share. He is now in heaven with his Mom, Dad, and beloved son. He is now well again.
Ray was preceded in death by his father and mother, Forest and Mabel Chapman his son, Anthony Ray Chapman, and one sister Cornie Cornett.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice Southard Chapman; daughter, Rebecca Bellamy; son and daughter in law, Charles and Jamie Chapman; a special granddaughter, Charlina June Chapman; an "adopted son," Steve McMurray; three sisters and brother in laws, Louise Robinson, Peggy and Hubert McClellan, Pam and Danny Carder along with several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you goes to Dr McElroy and Dr Misischia for being so caring. Also to nurses Kim, Pat, Patti, Deb, Kenny, Scott, Valarie, Joyce, and Sheena.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Community Fellowship Baptist Church, Gate City, VA. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2011 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel, Gate City Funeral Home by Pastor Steve McMurray and Reverend Darrell Fletcher. Judy McConnell will provide the music. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Chapman, Tim Shell, Jim Shell, Eugene McClellan, Ronnie Chapman, Jack Cornett and Bryan Southard.
