Mrs. Ruth Castle, 91, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mrs. Castle was the oldest active member of the Nickelsville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Castle was born in Wise County, VA on January 23, 1919, the daughter of the late Fred and Margaret Stidham McLaughlin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Castle; sons, Charles Castle and Randy Castle; sisters, Helen Chambers, Bettie Baker, and Patricia Gillespie; brothers, Fred McLaughlin, Jr., Clyde McLaughlin, Jack McLaughlin, and Jim McLaughlin.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Addington, Nickelsville, VA and Margaret Castle, Nickelsville, VA; daughter-in-law, Patricia Castle, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Forrest Addington, Chad Addington, and Shannon Castle; great grandchildren, Chase Addington and Aslan Addington; brothers, Ed McLaughlin, Sparks, NV and Harry McLaughlin, Valencia, CA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the Nickelsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Millard Johnson, Dr. George Odle and the Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Music will be the Nickelsville United Methodist Community Choir, violin solo by Aslan Addington, and piano solo by Ruth Alfred.
Burial will follow the service at the Turner Family Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Gary Cox, John Flanary, Vance Gilmer, Bill Vicars, Billy Odle, and Jeff Stapleton will serve as pallbearers. Jack Meade, Johnny Gilmer, Don Wood, and Jarvis Vicars will serve as honorary pallbearers.
