Carl Hubert Cassell, 73, entered into rest Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a Christian and attended Walnut Chapel Church, East Carters Valley.
He was born in Russell County, VA May 6, 1935 to the late Earl and Sophia Cassell.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Nell Cassell and one brother, Walter Cassell.
Survivors include his fianc?e, Rebecca "Becky" Jones, Carl and Becky have been constant companions for 13 years. Becky was Carl's best friend and confidant. She shared in his joys and was his rock in trouble times. Becky is loved by Carl's family as much as he loved her; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Kim Cassell, Bristol, TN, David and Karen Cassell, Blountville, TN; two sisters, Danah Johnson, Lebanon, VA and Eva Hughes, Lebanon, VA; brothers, Junior Cassell, Lebanon, VA and Don Cassell, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Lindsay Cassell, Alexa Cassell, and Alex Cassell; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Allen Hensley officiating. Music will be provided by The Smith Family and Patsy Hensley.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Taylor, Joe Taylor, Don Castle, Mike Taylor, Don Martin, Jeff McAmis, John Dockery and Jimmy Castle.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Smith, Kay Pierson, brothers-in-law, nephews and Dynamark Guys.
