Hagan Cassell – Gate City, VA
Alfred “Hagan” Cassell, 82, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Mr. Cassell was born in Scott County, VA on January 29, 1934. He was the son of the late Worley and Mary Stapleton Cassell. He was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Weber City Church of God.
He was retired in 2009 with 42 and a half years of service from the maintenance division with the Town of Gate City.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Ruby Dean, Lola Dean, and Carrie Cassell; brothers, J.C. Castle; sister-in-law, Loretta Castle; and brothers-in-law, J. B. Dean and Scott Dean preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Patsy G. Cassell; daughter, Penny Hammonds; special ex son-in-law, Ricky Hammonds, all of Gate City, VA;step granddaughter, Missy Thompson and husband, Johnathan; step great grandsons, Chadwick Poole and Bryson Gillenwater; sister, Ethel Smith and husband, Sam, Gate City, VA; brother, Earnest Castle and wife, Mary, Castlewood, VA; special friend and brother-in-law, Cecil Sexton, Gate City, VA; special niece, Christina Winston and husband, Chris, Gate City, VA; special great nieces, Brittany Sexton and Hayla Winston; special great nephews, Timothy “Little Man” Sexton and Kaiden Winston; along with other nieces, nephews, friends , and his church family.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Raymond Hammonds, eulogy by Jack Martin, and words of encouragement by Jimmy Gose. Jody Hammonds and Kim and Ronnie Absher will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Bobby Dean, Wade Sexton, Jim Hicks, R. J. Begley, Gale Fields, and Edward Seiber will serve as pallbearers. Ricky Dean, Larry Dean, Derick Smith, Mack Absher, Jerry Smith, Ralph Hammonds, and Chris Winston will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Gate City Funeral Home to help with the funeral expense.
