William Harmon Carter – Gate City, VA
William Harmon Carter, 88, Gate City, VA, passed away, Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his residence.
William was born in Scott County, VA on September 22, 1925 to the late John T. and Emmer Walker Carter.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherre Morrow; son, Terry Carter; sisters, Ruby Stewart, Ida Frazier; brothers, Ray Carter, Roy Carter and John T. Carter, Jr.
“Bill” served his family for years while being an avid Gate City football fan and devoted member of the Scott County Park Golf Course. He was also an employee of the Eastman for 43 years. Bill attended Gate City United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane Herron Carter, Gate City, VA; son, Mickey Carter and wife Barbara, Rock Hill, SC; daughter-in-law, Teresa Davis Carter and son, Nick Clark, Calhoun, GA; grandchildren, Anna Carter, Will Carter and Jason Morrow; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Joe Barber officiating.
Military Graveside services will follow the service, Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Carter- Frazier Cemetery in the Daniel Boone Community of Scott County by the American Legion Hammond post #3, Kingsport, TN and #265, Gate City, VA. John Carter, Will Carter, Tommy Herron, Bob Davis, Don Frazier, Jeff Oakes and Mark Wolfe will serve as pallbearers. Johnny Musick, Bird “OL” Blackburn Bernie Ervin, Jack Newland and Howard Gardner will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Gate City United Methodist Church.
