Theda Jewell Carter – Kingsport, TN
On June 16, 2015 the Lord called and Theda Jewell (Clark) Carter answered. She passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at Holston Manor Nursing Home after a short illness.
Theda was a beautician from 1952 - 2010, making her the oldest working beautician during 2010.
She was a member of Holston View United Methodist Church in Weber City, VA where she taught the children as well as greeted her fellow Christians at the door. She studied the Bible religiously.
She was also a member of Women of the Moose, The Rebeccas, and the Republican Club.
Her husband, Grant was a brother to A.P. Carter and she was cordially known at The Carter Fold as Aunt Theda.
Theda was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Melvin and Laura Barker Clark; brothers, Mosco, Gordon, Emmitt, and Garnet Clark; and sisters, Sadie Clark, Maggie Shume, and Frances Smeltzer.
Surviving are her sons, Billy Scott Carter and wife, Phyllis, Benjamin Ray Carter and wife, Judy; daughter, Patsy Jewell Carter; grandsons, Scott Carter, Terance Carter and wife, Pam, John Carter and wife, Misty, and Tommy Kilgore; granddaughters, Teresa Carter, Tina Johnson and husband, Todd, and Julie Farr and husband, Wyman; great grandsons, Brandon Carter, Daniel Parton, Elijah “Cole” Carter, Gabriel Farr, Esteban Carter, Chris Carter, and Alden Johnson ; great granddaughters, Charlotte Farr, Hannah Farr, Olivia Carter, Cydney Carter, and Amanda Johnson; sister, Virginia Carroll; nieces, Mary Mattucci, Fern Salyer, Bernice Hoke, Barbara Schierloh, Joyce Clark, and Shirley Davis; and nephews, Jerry Clark, Charles Clark, Gale Clark, and Stanley Clark.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Barry Helms of Holston View United Methodist Church and her grandson, Rev. Scott Carter officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m, Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations can be made to Holston View United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to thank her Hospice nurse, Larry for his love and care of Theda.
