Roy Carter, 79, entered into rest Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Lonesome Pine, Big Stone Gap, VA.
He was a retired farmer and had resided at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home for the last 2 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marien and Mandy Carter; a brother, Will Carter and one sister, Hazel Rhoton.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Carter, of the home, Ft. Blackmore, VA; sons, Jimmy "Bud" Carter and Robert "Bobby" Carter, both of the home, Billy Carter and wife, Georgie Carter, Clinchport, VA; daughters, Maude Gaynell Darnell and husband, Donnie, Ft. Blackmore, VA; Jennifer Taylor and husband, Jerry, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Bessy Darnell, Dungannon, VA; grandchildren, Ronnie Darnell, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Jennie Rhoton and husband, Greg Rhoton, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Donna Giles and husband, Chad, Gate City, VA, Reba Darnell, Dungannon, VA, Scott Taylor and wife, Faith, Newville, PA; three great grandchildren; sister, Laurie Darnell, Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, Duffield, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Edwards Cemetery, Hill Station, VA with Rev. Allen Hensley officiating. Music will be provided by Patsy Hensley. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Gate City Funeral Home is serving the Carter family.
