Retta Carter

November 15, 1934 — May 28, 2016

Duffield, VA - Retta Tomlinson Carter, 81, passed away early morning Saturday May 28th, 2016. Our Wife, Mom, and Nana is now present with the Lord.
Nana was a talented cook and loved getting together with her family. Retta enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful quilts for different people throughout the years. She left her mark on this world with her no non-sense approach to life. She was a strong willed woman that many admired. There's nothing else in this life that meant more to Retta than her family and they are blessed because she was a part of their lives
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Dona Tomlinson; brothers, J.D. Tomlinson, Ralph Tomlinson; and sister, Edith Frye; mother and father in law, Echol and Lillie Taylor.
Retta is survived by her husband of 60 years, Worley Carter; her daughters, Susan Hood and Greg of Duffield, VA and Mona Carter of Kingsport, TN. She is also survived by her most beloved grandsons, Nick Hood and Leslie of Duffield, VA, Jake Hood and Kelly of Rye Cove, VA, and Adam Hood and Kristy of Duffield, VA.
Her great-grandchildren were her pride and joy: Kenzie and Drue Hood; Ty, Jett, and Josie Hood; and Lillie Hood. These were her babies and she loved them with all of her soul.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Select Speciality Hospital in Bristol TN for their care and compassion. The family would also like to give many thanks to everyone for all the prayers for her and her family.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 31st, 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. with funeral services to follow in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with Brother T.J. Hood and Pastor Chuck Grimm officiating. The Family will also receive friends at anytime in the home of Susan and Greg Hood.
