Jimmy Ray Carter – Gate City, VA
Jimmy Ray Carter, 78, Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2016 after battling cancer for over two years.
Jimmy was born in Scott County, VA on March 19, 1938 and was the son of late James and Nanny Wallen Carter.
He lived in Scott County, VA all of his life. He attended Rye Cove High School and Roanoke Barber School. He remained a barber as long as he was able. He was a farmer for years.
He loved to hunt, fish, camp and be outdoors. He enjoyed dancing and singing karaoke.
He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Carter Doughter; sons, Ronnie Carter and Roger Carter, granddaughter, Chrisanna Brooke Carter, sister, Wilma Jean Carter and brothers, Bruce Carter and Don Carter.
He is survived by the love of his life, Patsy Hill Carter, Gate City, VA. They got married on April 26, 1958 and celebrated 58 years of marriage. She never left his side and cared for him until he passed.
Other survivors include his sons, Ricky Carter and Roy Carter; grandchildren, Christy Dougherty Duncan and husband, Nathan, Kimberly Carter and Alan Michael Carter; great grandchildren, Cody Duncan and Ezra Carter; sisters, Lucy, Janie, and Judy; brother, Charles Carter; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will be missed by his faithful dachshund dog, Lucky and his best friends J C Stewart and Tommy Short.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. Music will be provided by Lewis and Faye Hill.
Graveside services following the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
