J. Fred Carter, Kingsport, TN, 87, passed away, Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
Mr. Carter was born in Scott County, VA on July 9, 1929. He was the son of the late Emmett Patrick and Maude Marie Lawson Carter.
He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy with 22 years of service and retired from Eastman Kodak with 30 years of service.
J. Fred loved farming, raising livestock, hunting, fishing, and NASCAR.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mary C. (Mann) Carter; sisters, Inez Dean and Anna Lee Wheatley; brother, Eugene Carter preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Marie Barker and husband, Dennis, Kingsport, TN, Bill Carter, Kingsport, TN, and Shelley Zinser and fiance, Mario Misciagna, Kingsport, TN; sister, Evelyn Brickey and husband, Jim, Gate City, VA; brother, Glen Carter and wife, Matilda, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Nicholas, Lucas, Sydney Carter, Alicia Lanford, Cecilia Williams, Cameron Williams, Matthew Barker (Kayla), Sarah Hartley (Nate), great grandchildren, Makenzie Barker, Izabella Barker and Paizlee Barker; along with several nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home.
Military Graveside services will follow the visitation, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA, by the U. S. Navy Funeral Honor Team. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
