Hazel Carter – Gate City, VA
Hazel Faye McClelland Carter, 87, Gate City, VA passed away, Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
Mrs. Carter was born in Scott County, VA on November 7, 1927, and was the daughter of the late M.L. “Fed” and Elsie Mae Blair McClelland.
She and her husband started the first youth group programs in the area 50 years ago. They traveled over the county to different churches and taught them how to have a successful youth program. She played the piano at church for over 50 years. She loved to sing with her husband and they attended several singing schools. She started attending church at Copper Creek Church and then attended Victory Baptist in Gate City until declining health prevented her from going. She loved the Lord and has now finished the race.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Joseph Worley Carter, Jr.; son-in-law, Jerry W. “Babe” Bellamy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Gene McClelland preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Bellamy, Gate City, VA; granddaughters, April Bellamy, Gate City, VA and Joanna Edens and husband, Aaron, Weber City, VA; great grandson, Eli Edens, Weber City, VA; and nephew, Wayne McClelland and wife, Kathy, Gate City, VA.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA with Rev. Danny Sykes and Rev. Aaron Edens officiating.
