Charles Henry Carter ? Gate City, VA Charles Henry Carter, 82, Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Carter was born in Scott County, VA on May 1, 1925, son of the late Rufus Monroe Carter, Sr. and Jenny Myrtle Hartgrove Carter. He was a member of Big Cut Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Scott County Lifesaving Crew. He was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, four brothers, Robert W. Carter, Elmer Carter, J.E. Carter and R.M. Carter, Jr. and his mother-in-law, Susie Rebecca Joyner, preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife of forty-three and one half years, Nancy Joyner Carter, son, Charles Carter, daughters, Donna Wright and husband, Elmer, Sharon Phillips and husband, Keith, six grandchildren, Jennifer Wright Ramey, Richard Wright, Joshua Williams, Lukas Presley, Daniel Presley and Julie Presley, two great grandchildren, Jessica Ramey and Keely Nicole Bear, sisters, Edith Dockery and JoAnn Kilgore and husband, Rhea, brothers-in-law, Ed Joyner and Lee Roy Joyner and wife, Charlotte, sisters-in-law, Faye Gilliam, Janelle Carter and Stella Carter along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Elder James Mauk and the Rev. John Henry officiating. James Mauk and his wife, Carol will provide the music. Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W. David Dockery, Rick Joyner, Joshua Williams, Richard Wright, Daniel Presley and Lukas Presley will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Scott County Rescue Squad will serve as honorary pallbearers.The family will be meeting at the cemetery for the graveside service.
