Bruce Carter, 79, Duffield, VA passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at his home.
He was born in Scott County, VA on October 5, 1936. , and was the son of the late Johnny and Sarah (Rhoton) Carter.
Bruce was loved by everyone that knew him. He was a loving man who loved his family more than anything. He was a wonderful husband, Dad, brother, and friend.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from J.P. Stevens.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Beulah Faye Carter, and twin brothers, Guy Edgar and Gus Edward Carter preceded him in death.
He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Nancy Summey Carter, of the home; special sons, Tim Carter, of the home and Tony Carter and wife, Karen, Rye Cove, VA; special daughter, Tammy Ward and husband, Duane, Jonesborough, TN;; grandsons, Shaun Carter and Jacob Carter, Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Savannah Carter, Kingsport, TN; step grandchildren, Austin and Makayla Blevins, Rye Cove, VA; sisters, Peggy Roach and husband, Harold, Duffield, VA and Hallie Kern and husband, Vernon, Duffield, VA; brother, Ted Carter and wife, Linda, Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Wanda Carter, Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Hickman officiating. A Eulogy will be given by Mike Ervin. Mike and Dottie Lane will provide the music.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Morrison Cemetery, Rye Cove, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
