Alice Carter – Ft. Blackmore, VA Alice Ruby Sanders Carter, 93, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Carter was born in Scott County, VA on December 14, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Callie Ebbie Carter Sanders. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Henry Carter; son, Walter Leon Carter; and granddaughter, Rhonda Sue Carter. Surviving are her daughters, Betty Zickafoose and husband, Mike, Bristol, TN and Elizabeth Bernice Starnes and husband, David, Ft. Blackmore, VA; son, Clyde Carter and wife, Ruth Ann Carter, Ft. Blackmore, VA; 8 grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with George Pearce officiating. A eulogy will be given by Dr. Todd Cassell. Music will be provided by The Upward Way Quartet. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Holston View Cemetery. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service..
