Agnes Olene Carter, 81, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family August 10, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born September 1, 1929 in Scott County, VA to the late Howard and Vernie Anderson.
She had lived in Scott County all of her life until January when she moved to The Village at Allandale. She attended Fellowship Chapel Church and sang with the Fellowship Chapel Quartet for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Eckle Carter; sister, June Butler; brothers, Elmo and J.D. Anderson; grandson, Jesse Carter; and special nephew, Johnny Butler.
Survivors include one daughter, Freda Burke and husband, Wayne, Gate City, VA; son, Fredie Carter and fiancée, Patsy Moffitt, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren include, Amanda Owen and husband, Phillip, New Braunfels, TX, Rebecca Horton and husband, Jonathan, Knoxville, TN, Jeb Carter and wife, Jessica, Kingsport, TN; sister, Sylvia Salling and husband, Rev. L.W., Ft. Blackmore, VA; sister-in-law, Marie Anderson, Ft. Blackmore, VA; and several very special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Mack Sanders, Rev. Rick Quillen, and Rev. L.W. Salling officiating. Phillip Owen will provide the music.
Burial will follow the services at the family cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Kevin Anderson, Jeb Carter, Steve Carter, Jonathan Horton, Roger Lawson, and Danny Whited will serve as pallbearers. Danny Anderson, Victor Finch, Colin Green, Lucian Lawson, Troy Sanders, Rev. Mike Mellons, Rev. Robert Taylor, and Dr. Gregory DeMotts will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family would like to express our special thanks to Dr. Gregory DeMotts and his wonderful staff for their loving care of Mom through the years. They have been special friends of our family.
Also, special thanks to the staff and residents of The Village at Allandale for their love and care for Mom the last 7 months. She loved being with you.
Last but not least, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Care Center ER, 5th floor ICU, and 3rd floor Wilcox Hall for your wonderful care and compassion.
