James (Jim) Carlson, Duffield, VA
James (Jim) Carlson passed away peacefully at his home on April 15, 2016 at the age of 47 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was the beloved husband of Lynn and the much adored father of James and Emilee, of the home. He was born in Dearborn, Michigan on May 5, 1968 and had been a long time resident of Duffield, Virginia. Jim was an avid participant in little league sports and enjoyed the many years he spent coaching and umpiring little league baseball and football. He loved the outdoors and took great joy in his favorite hobby of deer hunting. He worked at Eastman Chemical Company for the last 11 years and previously at Joy Manufacturing where he leaves many friends and fond memories.
In addition, he is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Vencelov and step-father, Bob; father, Lawrence R. Carlson, brother, Robby Vencelov; sister, Susan Dingus and husband Johnny; nieces, Kaylee and Alyssa Dingus, and nephew Preston Dingus, all of Kingsport, Tennessee; mother and father-in-law, Elmer and Judy Hill; brother-in-law, Matthew Hill, all of Duffield; his best friend, Daryl Gilly, and his special caregiver, Mary Stanley, both of Duffield, Virginia.
Visitation will be held at the Gate City Funeral Home from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 18, 2016. As was his wish, the family will hold a private prayer service to honor his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Duffield Little League at P.O. Box 544 Duffield, VA 24244.
