Helen Mae Lane Calhoun – Manville, VA
Helen Mae Lane Calhoun, 85, Manville, VA went to be with the Lord after a history of illness on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Indian Path Medical Center.
She was a native of Scott County, VA born on January 21, 1929 and lived in the Manville community all of her life.
Helen was a faithful and loving wife of 69 years, a wonderful and devoted mother, and a proud and very special mamaw and great mamaw.
She was a charter member of Alley’s Chapel United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served with the youth and children of the church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Anthony Calhoun; her parents, Amos Clayton and Pearl Bellamy Lane; two brothers, Edgar Ray Lane and Rev. Claude Lane; two sisters, Shirley Ruth Lane and Thelma Lane Templeton.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 69 years, Calvin Calhoun of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Larry Edward and Judith Ann Calhoun of Gray, TN; grandchildren, Tracy Calhoun, Jamey Calhoun, and Amanda Lyon and husband, Earl; great granddaughter, Katie Johnson; daughter-in-law, Sandy Calhoun and husband, Joe Defenderfer; one brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Paul Lane and wife, Christine; sisters, Betty and Rev. Daryl K. Williams, Shelby and Phil McConnell; brother-in-law, Carl Templeton; and sister-in-law, Erma Lane; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends; brother-in-law, John Calhoun and wife, Nancy; and sisters-in-law, Ruby Nelms and Rosie Calhoun.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bob Cloud, Rev. Clint Ramey and Rev. Paul Lane officiating. The Tipton Family Singers, The Believers and Bob McConnell will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Pendleton Cemetery, Manville, VA. Dwight Lane, Roger Lane, Phil McConnell, Jr., Danny Calhoun, Dwain Calhoun, Raymond Pendleton, Clayton McDavid, Jim Blalock, and Matthew Edwards will serve as pallbearers. Jim Lane and Miles Begley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Thursday to go in procession to the graveside service.
