Kelly H. Brooks, 87, Gate City, VA passed away, Monday, October 28, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
Mr. Brooks was born in Scott County, VA on March 27, 1926 to the late David Sullivan and Blanche Whisnant Brooks.
Kelly proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He was of the Baptist faith, a Shriner and Mason, Gate City Lodge #35.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Claude Brooks preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Oaks Brooks, Gate City, VA; daughter, Deborah Brooks Boromei, Indian Shores, FL; son, Charles David Brooks and wife, Laurie, Laurel, MD; sisters, Betty Quillen, Kingsport, TN, Ann Williams, Hiltons, VA; brothers, Don Brooks and wife, Wilma, Gate City, VA, Eddie Ray Brooks, Gate City, VA, Johnny Brooks and wife, Carolyn, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Allison Moore and husband, Jacob, Amanda Brooks and Ashley Brooks; brother-in-law, Coy Arnold, Gate City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October30, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Odell Beauchamp officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 p.m.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #65, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
