Lorraine V. Broadwater, 96, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Broadwater was born in Scott County, VA on October 9, 1917, daughter of the late James and Esther Caslte Kilgore, and was the last survivor of 8 children.
She was one of the oldest members of First Baptist Church of Nickelsville, VA where she served as Treasurer for many years.
In the 1950's and 60's she owned and operated Phil's Grill in Nickelsville. She was the first Librarian at Nickelsville School where she also served as a Teacher's Aid.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Lloyd F. Broadwater (1967); step daughters, Virginia Duncan and Nola Jones; and 4 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Phil Broadwater and wife, Betty, Nickelsville, VA; Ronald "Ronnie" Broadwater and wife, Barbara, Gate City, VA, and Gary A. Broadwater and wife, Jackie, Mt. Carmel, TN; grandchildren, Melissa Mendenhall and husband, Randy, Michele Broadwater, Lori Kay Miller and husband, James, Jonathan Broadwater and wife, Heather, and Tracy Broadwater; great grandchildren, Savannah Blackman, C.J. Bennett, Kaedryn Broadwater, and twins Maddie and Luke Miller; several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins officiating; a eulogy will be given by Thomas Hillman and Timothy Quillen.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 at Nickelsville Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Nickelsville will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Monday, to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Nickelsville Cemetery Fund, c/o First Baptist Church of Nickelsville, 11606 Nickelsville Highway, Nickelsville, VA 24271.
The family would like to convey a special thank you to Dr. Gregory DeMotts and to the staff of 400 Hall of Wexford House for their love and care of Mom.
