Vinada (Lay) Brickey

Vinada (Lay) Brickey, 85, passed away Friday, November 21, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Vinada was born in Scott County, VA to the late Jake and Kate (Hilton) Lay. Mrs. Brickey was an active member of First Baptist Church, Weber City, VA, until her failing health. She worked with the pre-school program in the church for 30 years. She was a former employee of Eastman Kodak Company, and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were a daughter, Janice Martin; brothers, William Lay and Ernest Lay; sister-in-law, Betty Lay and brothers-in-law, Warner E. Brickey and Robert C. Brickey.
Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Willie (Mack) Brickey, Weber City, VA; daughter, Karen Brickey, Portsmouth, VA; sons, Ron Brickey and wife, Charlene, Kingsport, TN, Greg Brickey and wife, Susie, Mt. Carmel, TN; son-in-law, Dr. Rick Martin, Ridgeland, MS; grandchildren, Joel and David Martin, Cassandra, Aaron and Brianna Brickey. In addition, she is survived by her brothers, Jim Lay, Kingsport, TN, J.D. Lay and wife, Helen, Kingsport, TN, Roy Lay and wife, Peggy, FL, John Lay and wife, Maureen, FL; sister, Joan Snapp and husband, Jimmy, Kingsport, TN; sisters-in-laws, Joanne Lay, Madge Lay, Jewel and husband, Buck Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Music will be provided by Charles (Jiggs) Willis.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the employees of the Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc., and also to Dr. Steven Baumrucker, and the nurses and staff of 3rd floor of Wilcox Hall, Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, for all their care and concern.
