June Carter Brickey, 83, Kingsport, TN went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 27, 2017. June was born in Clinchport, VA on May 21, 1933 and moved to Kingsport at an early age. After graduating from Holston High School, June went to ETSU and became a teacher. She taught in Sullivan County, TN; Brevard County, FL; and spent 21 years teaching at Fort Blackmore Elementary. She was an amazing teacher who touched many lives and was loved by all of her students.
June was a member of Fort Blackmore United Methodist Church. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgie and Hascue Carter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Katie Carter, Paul and Dorothy Carter, Joyce Carter and special life-long friends, Geneva Cartmel and Mary Lou Hamm.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 56 years, Ted Brickey; daughters, Mitzi and husband, Lee Hammond, Kingsport, TN and Denise Nelson, Manville, VA; the grandchildren she adored, Chris Nelson and girlfriend, Jamie Morrell, David Nelson, Caleb and Bonnie Hammond; brother, O.J. Carter, Jonesborough, TN; special caregiver, Misti Frazier, Bristol, TN; and many other special relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Jackie McGowan officiating. Granddaughter will provide music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 1, 2017 at Carter Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Lee Hammond, Chris Nelson, David Nelson, Caleb Hammond, and John Carter will serve as pallbearers. O.J. Carter, Dan Brickey, and Bob Brickey will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
