Mr. Vanis E. Bowen, 89, Gate City, VA passed away, Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Brian Center surrounded by his family.
Mr. Bowen was born in Scott County, VA on August 5, 1921, the son of the late John Bowen and Nora Fain Bowen. Mr. Bowen was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Pacific during World War II. He attended Marble Point Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Maude and Phoebe; brothers, Elic, Oscar, Alvin , Charlie, Joe, and Amos Bowen; and son-in-law, Benny Vermillion, Sr.
Surviving is his wife, Frances Hackney Bowen, Gate City, VA; daughter, Adele Bowen Vermillion, Gate City, VA; son, David Bowen and wife, Valeria, Coeburn, VA; grandchildren, Benny Vermillion, Jr. and wife, Misti, Leann Vermillion Carter and husband, Matthew, and Zachary Bowen; great grandchildren, Logan, Madison, and Ashley; and brother, Bill Bowen, Gate City, VA.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Brother Roy Newton and Rev. Riley Boy officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011at Holston View Cemetery by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W. and members of the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
A special thank you is extended to the nurses and staff of the Brian Center for their love and care of Mr. Bowen.
