Sylvia Louise Bowen, 71, entered into rest December 4, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center with her family at her side.
She was born in Scott County, VA October 9, 1938 to the late Thomas Ketron and Lula McCloud Ketron.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Bowen, 2003.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary J. and Larry Carter, Rose and Troy Miller, all of Duffield, VA; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Virginia Bowen, Lenoir, NC, Bob and Debbie Bowen, Duffield, VA, Wyatt and Anita Bowen, Big Stone Gap, VA, Thomas and Amy Bowen, Duffield, VA; special sister-in-laws, Georgia Rogers, Big Stone Gap, VA, June Free, Duffield, VA, and Nancy Bowen, Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Jordan and Savanah Bowen, Adam Miller, Tracie Hines, Lori Potts, Brandon Bowen and Bradley Bowen; great grandchildren, Maximus Miller, Elle Miller, Ava Miller, Hayden and Olivia Hines, Tanner, Austin, Michael and Makayla Potts, one expectant great grandchild due in June; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Gate City Funeral Home or anytime at the residence of Sylvia Bowen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2009 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Eckel Herron and Evangelist Garry Hood officiating. Music will be provided by The Red Hill Harmoneers.
Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, TN.
Pallbearers will be Adam Miller, Denton Hines, Tanner Potts, Kenny Potts, Brandon Bowen, J.C. Starnes, and David Dockery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Hammonds, The Scott County Sheriff's Department and Duffield Fire and Rescue Squad.
Gate City Funeral Home is serving the Bowen family.
