Suella Bowen, 74 — Gate City, VA. passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Dufffield, VA. to M.D. Purkey and Pearl Lane Purkey, she graduated from Fairview High School in1950. She worked with her husband for Gate City United Methodist Church until she became ill. She was an accomplished seamstress, quitlter and crafter. Having spent many happy hours knitting, crocheting, weaving baskets, recaning chairs and sewing for others.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Russell Newton.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years and 10 months, Billy Ray Bowen, Gate City, VA. two sons, Michael Bowen, Rick Bowen and wife, Ann all of Gate City, VA.
Three sisters, Jessie Tucker and husband, John of Church Hill, TN., Georgia Hobbs and husband, Fred of Clio, Michigan and Delta Purkey of Gate City, VA.
The family will be receiving family and friends from 12-1 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2007 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Brown will conduct the graveside service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will follow the visitation in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City,VA.
Following Mrs. Bowen's instructions, the family requests that no flowers be sent and also the family request that no food be brought to the home.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the many friends on the staff of Brian Center who assisted in her care and to Lavada Clasby for her devoted nursing skills.
