Paul Nelson Bowen, 84, Gate City, VA passed away, Friday, December 13, 2013 at Heritage Hall, Big Stone Gap, VA.
Paul was born in 1929, the firstborn of Elic and Dora Babb Bowen. He spent most of his life Gate City where he raised a family and worked as a roofer and also for K-Mart for 10 years. He was an avid fan of the Gate City Blue Devils.
In 2005 he moved to assisted living and later to Heritage Hall Healthcare Center in Big Stone Gap, VA. During his entire stay at Heritage Hall he was a participant in Mountain Empire PACE (Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly). He had many friends there and was loved by his PACE family. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his caregivers at both the PACE Center and Heritage Hall.
In addition to his parents, Elic and Dora Bowen, his sister, Wilma Jean Bowen (1948) and the mother of his children, Dana Bowen (2008) preceded him in death.
Surviving are his two daughters, Melissa and Paula; sons, Johnny, Mike, Martin, and Barry; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Saylor; and brothers, J.W. (Jay), Robert, Olin, Gary, Richard, Roger, and Johnny Dwight Bowen.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Richard Dice officiating.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Mountain Empire PACE, P.O. Box 888, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219.
