Myrtle Berniece Bowen, 95, Gate City, VA passed away, Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Bowen was born in Scott County, VA on February 25, 1920 to the late
Joe Cephus Sr. and Flora Lane.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Oscar Bowen; son in law, Leo Cox; sisters, Pauline Rossie, Fay Rossie, Irene Starnes, Jaunita Fish; brothers, Eviston Lane, Joe Cephus Lane Jr. and Grandchildren, Johnny Newton, Tammy Bradburn, Steven Bowen preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughters, Flora LaVere and husband Billy of Flint, MI, and Barbara Cox of Hiltons, VA sons, James Bowen and wife Betty of Gate City, VA, Bobby Bowen and wife Fran of Florida, Terry Bowen and wife Nancy of Michigan, Larry Bowen and wife Darlene Sue of Hiltons, VA; Sisters, Nancy Fields of Kingsport TN, Ina Smith of Kingsport TN, Patsy Bates of Kingsport, TN; Brothers, Gary Lane of Jonesborough, TN, and Robert Lane of Gray, TN. 14 Grandchildren, Several Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm., Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Gate City Funeral Home in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Riley Boy and Rev. Johnny Bowen officiating.
Ms. Bowen’s burial will be conducted at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA at 10 am Sunday, September 13, 2015. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
