Mack Derl Bowen, 67, Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord, Friday, July 6, 2012 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Mack was born in Scott County, VA on November 11, 1944 He was a pressman with Hawkins County Press and retired in 1994. Mack was an avid outdoorsman, loved gardening, genealogy and bird watching.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mack Daniel and Emma Burke Bowen, his sister, Elizabeth Collett; brother-in-law, Roy Barnett, and great nephew, Ethan Barnett.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Bowen, of the home, Connie Bowen, Nickelsville, VA, and Amy Bowen, Gate City, VA; grandsons, Todd Quinn and Maxwell Lawson; sister, Judy Barnett, Gate City, VA; brother, Muriel Bowen, Kingsport, TN; nieces, Debbie B. Williams, Rhonda Bowen, Tracy Collett, and Jennifer Collett; nephews, Michael Barnett, Kevin Barnett, Travis Barnett, and David Collett; along with several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Don Muncie and Brother Danny Sykes officiating. Travis and Marsha Barnett will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Todd Quinn, Maxwell Lawson, Michael Barnett, Kevin Barnett, Travis Barnett, and David Collett will serve as pallbearers. Paul Gillenwater and Ted Robinette will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the Gate City Funeral Home at 12:15p.m., Monday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family wishes to convey a special Thank You to the staff at the Indian Path Medical Center, Fresenius Medical Care, very special care givers, and the Scott County Life Saving Crew.
