Jarl Bowen – Duffield, VA

Jarl Bowen, 81 of Duffield passed away October 17, 2013 at his home. Born October 28, 1931 in Scott County, he retired from West Moreland Coal Company in 1983. Jarl was a beloved and respected member of the community. He was a hard worker and believed in earning an honest living. From working in the garden to hunting, Jarl always enjoyed being outdoors. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved and missed wife of 57 years, Lizzie Bowen, his parents Mary and Moscoe Bowen, and a brother Clarence Russell.
His survivors include his sons Gary Bowen and wife Carolyn, Jerry Bowen and wife Shirley all of Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Ashley Bowen Young and husband Chuck of Duffield, VA, Jared Bowen also of Duffield,VA and Jill Bowen of Appalachia, VA; Special Great Grandson, Avery Young; Step Grand Child, Sara Beverly; Special Brother and Sister-in-Law, Henry "Ribble" and Audrey Bowen of Duffield, VA ; Special Niece and Nephew Vickie Bowen of Duffield, VA and Scott Bowen of Church Hill, TN. Along with several other nieces and nephews, he leaves behind many close friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held Sunday October 20, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Terry Rhoton, Brother Gorman McMurray, and Brother Cecil Kern officiating with music provided by Durham's Chapel Quartet.
Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Hall Cemetery in the Stanleytown community. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers include : Jared Bowen, Chuck Young, Scott Bowen, Billy Stanley, Mickey Vaughn, Fred Gillenwater, and Stan Pruitt
Honorary Pallbearers include: Junior Jennings, Johnny Kerns, Harold Dillon, Farrell Stanley, Lester Bowen, Ronnie Butler, Teddy Starnes, Dexter Owens.
