Frances Hackney Bowen – Gate City, VA
Frances Elizabeth Hackney Bowen, 90, Gate City, VA passed away, Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Frances was born January 1924 in Scott County, VA to the late Estil E. and Effie Adel Starnes Hackney. She was a member of Marble Point Church and an employee of Nickels Department Store until it’s closing.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Vanis Bowen (2011), son-in-law, Benny Vermillion; sisters, Opal and Mabel; and brothers, Clyde, Kyle, Ray, Elmer, and Paul preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, David Bowen and wife, Valeria, Coeburn, VA; daughter, Adele Bowen Vermillion, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Benny Vermillion, Jr. and wife, Misti, Leann Vermillion Carter and husband, Matthew, and Zachary Bowen; great grandchildren, Logan, Madison, and Ashley; her special caregiver, Flora Hall; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Johnny Bowen and Rev. Riley Boy.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Her son, grandsons, and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m., Sunday to go in procession to the graveside service.
