Mrs. Charlotte Bowen, 77, Gate City, VA, passed away at her residence on May 2, 2012.
Mrs. Bowen was born in Scott County, VA, March 8, 1935, the daughter of the late Robert Henry Benton and Hattie Victoria Jennings Benton.
In addition to her parents, her sister, Helen Taylor preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. James "Jay" Bowen, Gate City, VA; sister, Carolyn Bobbitte and husband Dairel, Claypool Hill, VA; brothers Marvin Benton and wife Minnie, Gate City, VA, and David Benton and wife Judy, Leon, KS; along with several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev. Johnny Hackney and Rev. Danny Bostic officiating. Marcus and Christie Smith, Vilas Bowen, and Dairel Bobbitte will provide the music.
Graveside services will follow at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Ed Reed, Gary Bowen, Brent Benton, Tim Benton, Keith Jennings, and Danny Bartlett will serve as pallbearers. Allen McDavid, Bill DeBoard, and Roger Bowen will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the care givers of Mountain State Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Marble Point Church Building Fund, c/o Helen McDavid, 3142 Daniel Boone Road, Gate City, VA 24251.
