Louelva Jacqueline "Jackie" Bond, 85, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 28, 2009 at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Big Stone Gap, VA.
Jackie was a graduate of Shoemaker High School, Gate City; Sullins College, Bristol, VA and National Business College, Roanoke, VA.
Jackie was a retired social worker of the Scott County Social Services Office where she worked for most of her years after her college graduation. An avid Democrat, she was proud of her Presidential collections accumulated over her many years of attendance to Democratic conventions and presidential inaugurations. She was a long time member of Gate City United Methodist Church. Her gentle sense of humor and her love of cats, whom she considered her children, filled her life with joy.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Richmond and Louelva Dougherty Bond, Gate City, VA; an infant brother, Richmond "Sonny" Bond, Jr.
Surviving Jackie are five cousins, Dr. Brownie E. Polly, Jr., and George R. Polly, Big Stone Gap, VA, Mary Alverta Bond, Decatur, GA, Elizabeth Bond Boozer, Charlottesville, VA and Lennell Dougherty McKinnon, Canton, NY.
The family will be receiving friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Juanita S. Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home under the leadership of Rev. Steve Brown of Gate City United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Pallbearers are Tucker Coleman, Wesley Polly, Wesley Polly II, Brownie E. Polly III, Roderick St. Martin and Mickey Shull.
