Jessie Boggs, 89, Duffield, VA passed away, Tuesday, December 04, 2012 at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, Duffield, VA.
Mr. Boggs was born in Wise County, VA on April 4, 1923 to the late Jessie and Martha Caudill Boggs. He was a veteran of the United State Navy serving during World War II.
He was a retired mechanic with the City of Kingsport, TN.
In addition to his parents, his son, Rodger W. Boggs, sisters, Sallie Boggs Hill and Reba Boggs McDavid; and brothers, William Boggs, John Boggs, and Felix Boggs preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Florence Ramey Boggs, Duffield, VA; sons, Noel Boggs and wife, Margaret and Tim Boggs and wife, Penny; daughters, Janice Boggs Carroll and Teresa Rhoton and husband, Ed; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brother, James Boggs and wife, Jan; sisters, Kathleen Collier and husband, Ray, Evelyn Williams and Phoebe Kern; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m.in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Jimmy Hammonds officiating. Family and friends will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the First Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ Cemetery in the Rye Cove Community of Scott County, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. Jason Rhoton, Brian Boggs, Talon Boggs, Brad Carroll, Justin Boggs, Logan Boggs, and Jeffery Elkins will serve as pallbearers. Carl Minton, Byron Crawford, and Leonard Bowen will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ, in Rye Cove.
