Mrs. Glenna McDavid Blankenbecler, 75, Gate City, VA passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, TN.
Glenna was born in Scott County, VA on February 5, 1938 to the late Farley Mel and Viola Bell Trivett McDavid. She was retired from the Binding Department of the Kingsport Press.
In addition to her parents, her sisters, Margaret Tipton, Dorothy Doran; and brothers, Don McDavid, Raymond McDavid, and Farley (Junior) McDavid , Jr. preceded her in death.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Kenneth Blankenbecler, Gate City, VA; daughters, Debra Atwell, Abingdon, VA; Retha Darnell and husband, Larry, Ft. Blackmore, VA, and Janet Blankenbecler, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Nathan Godsey, Allison Godsey Hanline and husband, Michael, Matthew Henry, Adam Henry, and Jonathan Blankenbecler; great grandsons, Lucas Hanline and Christian Blankenbecler; Sisters; Nina Bise, Church Hill, TN, Elizabeth Peters, Gate City. VA, Mable Calhoun and husband, Albee David, Kingsport, TN; brother, Harold Mc David Johnson City, TN; sisters-in-law; Lou Mc David, Susan Mc David, Shirley McDavid, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Deon Turner and Rev. Bill Tignor officiating. Tipton's Chapel Singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Adams Family Cemetery in the Manville community of Scott County, VA. Matthew Henry, Adam Henry, Jonathan Blankenbecler, Dwayne Peters, Grady Peters, Eric McDavid, Tim Calhoun, Allen Blankenbeckler, and Shane McDavid will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Manville Community Center will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Adams Family Cemetery Fund, 3706 Red Hill Road, Gate City, VA 24251.
