Edith Roberts Blackwell, 90, Johnson City, TN passed away, Monday April 1, 2013 at her residence in Johnson City, TN following a brief illness.
Edith was a Scott County, VA native and was the daughter of the late William Roberts and Gertrude Isaacs Money.
She was a graduate of Dungannon High School and Whitney Business School, Kingsport, TN.
Edith was previously employed by the Scott County School System as a secretary at Dungannon High School.
She was a former member of the Dungannon United Methodist Church and The Womens Society of Christian Service.
Edith enjoyed varied interests and was an avid reader and traveled extensively in the later years.
In addition to her parents Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Blackwell in 1988; her brother William Roberts; a sister Joyce Jackson; and her grandson David Brian Blackwell.
She is survived by her daughter Lennie Story, Johnson City, TN; sons Michael Blackwell of Johnson City, TN, Samuel Blackwell and wife Brenda, Weber City, VA; Douglas Blackwell and wife Anna Lee, Dungannon, VA; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister Maxie Wampler and husband, Joe, Kingsport, TN; sister Arthene Roberts Robinson, Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Jean Roberts, Kingsport, TN; brother Dennis Money and wife, Lyndall, Washington State; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Amediysis Hospice and Medihome Private Care; and also to Dr. Frank Johnson and Gary Story for their caring and dedication.
The family will receive friends from 5-7, Friday, April 5, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. Following visitation, there will be a memorial service conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jackie Strickler officiating.
The graveside committal service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at the Fincastle Church Cemetery, Dungannon, VA.
