David W. Berry Sr. – Blackwater, VA
David W. Berry Sr., loving husband and father, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the age of 56.
David was born on November 28th, 1962 in Warren, OH. He resided in Ohio for most of his youth, before moving to his family farm in Fairview, VA. In 1985, he joined the Virginia Army National Guard and served in the 1031st Engineer Company for a total of 8 years. David chose a lifelong career in construction and enjoyed spending his free time on the farm, where he raised Black Angus cattle. To many, he was a beloved friend who offered a helping hand to whomever or whenever it was needed. We will always remember him as a proud and loving father, who dedicated his life to putting the needs of his family before his own.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Scott, Rena Scott, Claude A. Berry Sr., Marie Berry; father, CA Berry Jr; and mother-in-law, Juanita Stapleton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Loretta Berry; mother, Virginia Berry; daughter, Felicia “Bug” Berry; son, David “Littleman” Berry Jr. and wife, Jessalyn Berry; brother, Johnny Berry and wife, Patti; sister, Darla Carter and husband, Steve; Nieces, Chasity Medukas and Callie Carter; nephews, Matt Harrison, Holton and Clayton Carter; and several sister and brother-in-law’s, nieces, nephews as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Robert Fultz officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Berry Family Cemetery in the Beech Grove Community of Scott County, VA. David Berry Jr., Holton Carter, Clayton Carter, Derick Gibson, Dusty Moore and Leon Berry will serve as pallbearers. Seth Brooks, Jackie Moore, Johnny Berry, Steve Carter, Ked Berry, and Steve Legg will serve as honorary pallbearers. Military services will be provided by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard honors team.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
