Marvin Cecil Benton, age 76 of Gate city, VA moved peacefully into the arms of Jesus at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on April 3, 2013 after a short illness.
Mr. Benton was born in Scott County, VA on July 10, 1936 to the late Robert Henry and Hattie Victoria Jennings Benton. He was a 1955 graduate of Shoemaker High School. He was an employee of Oakwood Markets for over 20 years.
He faithfully attended Marble Point Church and was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Charlotte Bowen and half sister, Helen Taylor preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Minnie Lane Benton, Gate City, VA; daughter, Tina Lynn Howington and husband, Chris, Kingsport, TN; sons, Tim Benton, Gate City, VA and Brent Benton and wife, Becky, Walls, MS; grandchildren, Tyler, Creed, Chase, Landon, and Brittany Phelps, and Wesley Howington; great grandchildren, Kailynn Howington and Kinnlee Sturgil; sister, Carolyn Bobbitte and husband, Dairel, Claypool Hill, VA; brother, David Benton and wife, Judy, Leon, KS; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Danny Bostic and Rev. Gary Hunley officiating. Marcus and Christy Smith will provide the music. A special song will be sung by Dairel Bobbitte.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Marble Point Church Building Fund, c/o Helen McDavid, 3142 Daniel Boone Road, Gate City, VA 24251.
