Billy Wolfe Banner, 73, Weber City, VA passed away, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Banner was born in Dungannon, VA on March 16, 1937, the son of the late William and Lillian Quillin Banner. He was retired from the Kingsport Press after 44 years of service as a plant supervisor.
He was a member of Grace Covenant Church where he served as an Elder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Clark Banner.
Surviving is his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Shaun Banner and wife, Lisa, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, John William Banner and Laura Harrison, Dallas, TX and Katelyn (Banner) Spivey and husband, Jacob, Manville, VA. Bill is also survived by many loving cousins, special among them, Jerri Carter and husband, Don, Sue Vaughn, and Barbara Ann Edwards and husband, Ken; and special caregiver, Wanda Burton.
The family will receive friends from 4-7p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at Mr. Banner's residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ed Blair and Rev. Ed Clevenger officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at Banner Cemetery, Dungannon, VA at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Charles Carter, Jack Mullins, Donald Carter, Ken Edwards, Jerry Wolfe, Eugene Burton, Earl Gillenwater, Ken Ervin, and Zach Braddock will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
